About me
Erica Dennings is an experienced litigator dedicated to public service in her professional and
personal life. A graduate of Stanford University and University of Texas at Austin School of
Law, she worked for insurance defense firms in the first few years of practice. Ms. Dennings is a
certified mediator and arbitrator. For thirty years, Ms. Dennings served as a Senior Trial Counsel
in the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel at the State Bar of California. As Senior Trial Counsel
Ms. Dennings tried more than 50 cases before the State Bar Court, covering all substantive areas
of the law and ethics violations. Currently, Ms. Dennings is a mediator in the Day of Court
mediation program of the Alameda County Superior Court and regularly serves as a judge pro
temp in Alameda and San Francisco.
In addition to her professional work, Ms. Dennings volunteers more than 200 hours per year. She
has held leadership positions in the National Organization of Bar Counsel, the Charles Houston
Bar Association and the Alameda County Bar Association. Ms. Dennings has also served the
community in leadership positions in the San Francisco Chapter of the Links, Incorporated,
Stanford Black Alumni Association-Northern California, and Friends of the Oakland Public
Library. In 2023, Ms. Dennings received a certificate of achievement from the Links, Inc. for
more than 100 hours of service. In 2021, Ms. Dennings was named Volunteer of the Year by the
Alameda County Office of Education Mock Trial Competition and received the Diversity Award
from the State Bar of California.
Ms. Dennings speaks regularly on attorney ethics and wellness as well as diversity, equity and
inclusion topics to bar associations and other organizations.
She enjoys hiking, reading, and travel and lives in Oakland.
